Week 8 - Choreography

In this week’s choreography lesson, we continued to add more onto our group piece, as well as sort out timing and counts for sections already created. The Sunday before this week’s lesson, our group split into our house hold groups to create some more movements and motifs for our piece and taught each other these during this week’s lesson, as a group we have now finished choreographing for our first song and have now moved onto the second song.

Myself and daisy created a minute’s worth of movement by using The Chance Method, the idea behind this section was to show the audience the stress and anxiety we feel as humans to fit in with today’s society. When going into further research of stress and anxiety we found some of the symptoms included: feeling breathless, shaking and sweaty palms, this shows the fear of conforming and having to follow the crowd instead of breaking free as an individual.

For The Chance Method we picked three words that related to our stimulus and created three movements for each word, we then numbered them and put these into a randomised number app to confirm the new number order the words were:

Word One: Fear

Word Two: Passive Follower

Word Three: Panicked/ Anxious

Standing Section Order: 6,5,1,6,5,3,2,4

Seating Section Order: 7,8,9,9,7,9,8

Following on from our separate group task we did in our house hold groups, in our choreography lesson this week our group used the translation task to come up with three different duets, which shows the idea of us breaking away from conformity and into our individuality.

  1. I really enjoyed reading about your creative work this week, I love that you used the Chance Method to create movement, and I think its really interesting how you linked this to your stimulus. Did you find this more productive with the short amount of time as you were able to do it at home?

    1. Thankyou for your comment! I found working at home to choreograph was really productive as we were able to create over three minutes of new choreography between both of our house holds.

  2. I really like that you've used the choreographic processes which you learnt earlier on in your choreography lessons. It seems to have created really interesting motifs for you to develop. Have you had any challenges while choreographing recently?

    1. Thankyou for your comment! Yes we have faced a few different challenges as a group, especially with timing as our piece depends on the timing and everyone being on the right count and making it obvious when your not meant to be in time. But as a group I feel we’ve worked really well during the past few weeks to go over timing and ensure everyone knows when they are meant to go.

  3. Your use of choreographic methods is a really good way of inspiring movement and is very effective. If you were to choose another choreographic process that we have studied before, what would you use and why?

    1. Thankyou for your comment! If I was to choose another choreographic process, I would choose the translation task as this allows everyone to get involved and also generates a lot of movement and ideas that could be repeated as a motif.
